Clinical facelift surgery is a procedure used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and other signs of aging to improve the overall appearance of the face and chin. Facelift surgery can help reverse the harmful effects of time, stress and exposure to the elements. To perform this procedure, it will lift and tighten the lower facial muscles to create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance of contours and rejuvenate facial structure, then remove excess fat and pockets of skin that can contribute to an aged, tired appearance.

An experienced, skilled surgeon will perform this procedure with an artistic eye and exceptional attention to detail, so patients are left with negligible scarring and beautiful, natural-looking results. In addition to traditional full facelift procedures, there are several different variations of the procedure to address specific areas of the face. Many surgeons use advanced, minimally invasive techniques to minimize discomfort and downtime.

How is face lift surgery performed?

A traditional facelift procedure is performed with an incision starting at the hair or hairline above and in front of the ear (temporal area). The incision is extended down in front of the ear, below the ear, and then upwards behind the ear, terminating at the hair or hairline behind the ear. The skin and fatty tissues are then lifted from the underlying skin and fascia (connective tissue) as far forward as necessary to correct the loose skin problem. If the surgeon feels it is necessary, the underlying muscle and fascia can be tightened with sutures. The skin is pulled back and up and the excess skin is removed. The wound is then closed with stitches and skin staples. Some surgeons leave a drainage in the wounds to remove excess blood. Bandages are then applied. There are surgical techniques that go into deeper tissues, not under the skin and fat. The results are similar.

Face Lift Surgery is very satisfying for most patients. It gains a youthful appearance that lasts for about 10 years. Post-operative pain and discomfort is minimal. After the dressings are removed after about 3-5 days, the patient can resume social activities using makeup to cover the bruises and hair above the ear to hide the sutures.
